I lost counting how many BR I've done, but I believe this will be the 57th.
We're taking option B on THURSDAY, going to foothills, but leaving from Blaine.
Meeting place and time: The Market at Birch Bay, meet at 8:15, leave at 8:30
For those who doesn't have NEXUS, FYI, I saw about 15 minutes wait on regular lane at Peace Arch at 7 ish last Friday morning. You should check border waits and traffic on AM730 and www.borderlineups.com as you get ready to leave.
I'll be having $2 breakfast inside of the store, planning to get there by 8. You turn left as you enter the store, go towards the back of the store, you'll find the cafeteria.
From the border, take I-5 south. You get out Blaine's built up area. Then you start seeing strip mall called Birch Bay Square which contains The Market, Jack in the Box, Woods Coffee, etc. on your right. Exit at Birch Bay - Lynden Rd. Exit. I believe this is the first exit from Blaine. Turn right at the stop sign on Birch Bay - Lynden Rd. Pass by Shell, turn right again at the 4-way stop sign. Then enter the mall on your right.
Going south to Bellingham. We take Lakeway Dr., then take backroads going by Lake Whatcom, eventually we get to Sedro. We continue our way south, through Granite Falls, then Monroe.
I'm thinking Indian for lunch. No burritos this time around, because I'm going to Mexico next week! The Indian restaurant Clay Oven is a nominee for King5's Best of Western WA of last year. I tried the winner in Mill Creek (north of Seattle), it was good. I trust their judgement. http://best.king5.com/clay-oven/biz/131289
Or, Thai seems good, too: http://www.hellothaifood.com/benjarong/index.html
On the way back, we take almost same route back, but I try to throw some different backroads here and there. If we still have lots of time, we may go ride to Concrete? Or we go for a happy hour at one of brewpubs in Bellingham. We'll see.
I can go either tomorrow or Thu. I think of 2 options:
A. Orcas Island
Meet and leave from Blaine at 8:30, catch a ferry from Anacortes at 10:35. Round trip costs $20. One hour sailing each way. Catching another ferry back at 3:10 or 5:10. If we take 3:10 ferry, we'll have about an hour to explore at Lopez Island. Coming back to the border around 8.
B. Foothills of Granite Falls and Monroe
Thinking about leaving from Abbotsford around 9, but I'm flexible with time. Going thru Mosquito Lake Rd., Sedro-Wolley, Granite Falls, Monroe and back.
Reply with which option you want, and whether you prefer tomorrow or Thu. If you choose B, indicate at what time you want to leave from Abbotsford.
