I just bought a V-Strom 650 and am looking to get it all set up for touring. I've got a laundry list of mods I want to do, but am quite new to riding so I don't quite know the best way to approach them.
I've already got the bike set up with luggage - Givi top case (large enough for 2 helmets) and Pelican 1550's on the sides.
1) Crash Bars - I'm looking for the larger style crash bars, that actually come up and around the faring. The OEM Suzuki ones just seem small, and the Givi TN532 don't really look that great. I remember seeing a couple of V-Stroms with crash bars that were slightly larger than the Givi's with a second vertical bar through the middle. Kind of like the SW-Motech Rally Style crash bars, but perhaps larger?
2) Center Stand - Definitely going to need one of these, but I heard there were ones that might drop if the bike hits a big bump. I would really appreciate advice on which ones work and which ones to avoid.
3) Wind Screen - I'm a reasonably tall guy (6'1"), and the wind with the stock windscreen buffets my head around like it's in a paint-mixer. I'm open to ideas, but the Madstad mount looks pretty effective, even using the stock wind screen. http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/sc.7/category.750/.f
4) Diagnostic Tool - I heard there is a diagnostic tool that I can plug in under seat, that shorts two circuits so that trouble codes are displayed on top line of dashboard screen. Sounds like a must-have for long distance touring.
I can't wait to hear your advice.
