I got an excessive on the weekend and had a couple questions for you guys, hoping that someone had experience with it. They got me with a laser doing 160 in a 100 in Chilliwack. I'm a student, graduating this year, planning on moving to and working in Alberta at the end of next April. Here's what I got:
?? tow bill
?? impound fees
?? I'll have to get an employee to come out on a weekend when I pick it up
~$100 in greyhound tickets (home for work for the week, back to pick it up next weekend)
$320 every september for 3 years.
My plan is this: I would like to dispute the ticket, hoping not to get a court date until after I renew my insurance for another year (beginning of Sept) to save me the $320 surcharge this year. Even if I end up staying in BC and paying the $320/yr I would much rather defer it until after I graduate and I'm working full time.
Question 1: If I pay the fine, but then move to Alberta and transfer my license there, will ICBC still be able to come after me for their $320/year?
Question 2: If by some miracle the cop doesn't show up when I dispute the ticket, etc, and I don't have to pay, would I be able to seek reimbursement for the tow, impound, and greyhound? My thought is that if I'm innocent of the excessive I lost my car and incurred all kinds of expenses for no reason at the fault of the RCMP.
Question 3: Any idea what a tow/impound costs in Chilliwack? It's at AJ's towing.
Question 4: Do you see any holes in my plan?
And no, I don't really have any argument to get me out of the ticket in court. I just want to put things off until after Sept for reasons previously stated.
