Another 2 cents per litre .... ouch!
Another 2 cents per litre .... ouch!
The difference between you and me .........
socialism hard at work ?
more like hardly working
why the fuck are we, as drivers and riders, have to support some stupid public transit project that we dont ever fucking use in the first place? Not to mention the inconvenience to us during the construction part of it.
"Honda = Boring, Suzuki = Wannabes, Yamaha = Poser, Ducati = Overated, BMW = Compensating, Aprilia = Insecure, Buell = BCIT business... go faKOffee." - PUREVIL
It's so the hippies can thank you for paying for the public transit system while at the same time wag their dirty fingers at you for killing their planet.
^^ And then go out on their bicycles en masse and clog up our lanes, to prove how right they are!
then it's obviously working well!
you have a skytrain, rapid transit, whatever.. you get more malls & and movie theaters popping up.. along with huge arse business
towers to carve out our new skyline!..
why i am forced to pay for malls & movie theaters in cities when there is no way in hell i'll ever be able to afford actually living there is beyond me!! but hey... thats politics for yah!! facking thieves!!
15 cents and counting per litre currently out of our pockets because TRANSLINK cannot run a fvcking business which actually serves the public!!
the only ones not bitching about this, surprise surprise, are those who dont even have a fvcking license! nor drive a car!!
not that you actually need a license to drive like moron in this town....
rant clearly over now

If they did, then maybe there wouldn't be so many new taxes for all gasoline purchasers. I'm astounded that translink hasn't installed a sytem to ensure that riders have paid fares. The "honour system" of fare payment doesn't work for the most part in today's society.

Sumas has no Translink taxes.
Yesterday gas was $3.839 per US Gallons which is a whooping $1.015 US per litre,
With the strong dollar, that means gas is under a buck a litre in Sumas.

Turnstiles are not the answer. Fare evasion accounts for a mere fraction of the cost of construction for the turnstiles, the annual maintenance and the staffing invovled every year for these. Most likely, some lobbyist for one of the major turnstile manufacturers lobbied hard to get the government to agree that fare evasion is a real social issue. The money spent to purchase these and to maintain and staff these should be used to hire more live people (not hidden in ticket booths) patrolling the platforms.
combatting fare evasion by installing turnstiles is like weather stripping an 80 year old drafty house with no insulation. Like you are really saving money there. . . There will never be a break even point, as the intitial costs and ongoing maintenance costs far outway any savings combatting fare evasion.
The only thing that makes sense is that they need money and there's no logic in how they are going to get it. But, they are going to get it.
(We also pay HST on the Regional Transit Levy, a tax on a tax.)
Just as a reference from 2008.....
blame the tree huggers all you want, but a very good friend of mine drives a transit bus and he reports that a VERY large majority of suits (read business people) using transit are also fare evaders. Clearly the honour system doesn't work.
