Last minute ride Monday, after being off my bike
for a week or so.
No pictures, since I was... moving, well... a bit fast.
Originally wanted to do this 1120 km loop
but there was a big road closure north of Lyton...
Semi took out power lines, so when I turned N from
Lytton, was turned back at the greasy spoon, just
before you hit the twisties along the Thompson R.
Got lucky when 3+ KM of stopped cars decided to
wait, while I got wind that it was a 4 hour closure,
so turned around ASAP - to a wide open Hgwy 1
So ended up doing this 1170 km loop
Was an insane day of riding, with almost no
traffic on the roads:
- passed 2 vehicles total, between Pemberton
and Lillooet, and was at Warp Factor 8 the whole way
- once on Highway 1 between Lytton and Hope,
was almost no southbound traffic due to the
road closure, so that went by, ahem... a little quickly
- Very fast across Manning, well before noon, again,
with little traffic
- the Cascades crossing was absolutely barren,
with 6 vehicles total going my direction, between
the big hairpin on the east end, and Marblemount.
( I passed 4 of them on straights, and it was absolute
Got a lucky break at the road construction closure, where
they are paving chunks of the east end of Hgwy 20, scooted
by the line just after the closure, and it was some sort
of religiorgasmipiffany all the way to Marblemount
- 1170 km
- 15 hours door to door
- 2 hour layover lunch in Osoyoos
- 7 stops for fuel
- managed about 90 km/h average while on the road
(including 6 road closures - 5 in Can, 1 in US)
- ZERO enforcers spotted in Canada (about 740 km)
- 8 enforcers spotted in USA (about 430 km)
- 1 on 97 South
- 2 in Winthrop (1 napping in truck - I kid you not.
The "Dummy" in the "Busa-Killer" - Someone has a sense of humor)
- 1 Ranger in Newhalem
- 1 Ranger outside of Marblemount
- 3 near Concrete
Only road hazards/issues was the newly paved (same
day) 2-400 m chunks on the east end of Hgwy 20 (west of
Winthrop, and up to near the first pass).
Was extremely slippery in the rain, with new pavement
doused with water... Despite sub-light speeds, almost
went down twice on gentle corners...
An amazing day of riding !
Next time: Include Marble Canyon, Nighthawk,
and Darrington/Arlington in this 1200+ Km Loop
