I've seen this countless times and yesterday another Noob got his wallet spanked, hard.
Completly new and no clue, just saw a pretty bike on the web and bought it. Didn't ask any hard questions, didn't know what he was looking at.
What he bought was an ex race bike ridden to within an inch of it's life, and lowsided, then put back together with the mint stock body work. The gouges in the frame were putty'd up and repainted. He was told that noise he hears is the fan, cheap fix. Some one out there in Vancouver took advantage of some dumb kid at took him for $6500 for what is basically a $3500 bike with $3000 worth of repaires to be made. He gonna be into this bike now for around $10000 after fixing it. It's an 03 Ninja 600.
We see this quite often, too often. You assholes putting these shitters back on the road should be ashamed of yourselves.
Bottom line newbies....no matter how pretty it looks, spend $100 and get a professional to look at it. I'd hardly call myself a pro, but 10 seconds looking at this bike I spotted about $1500 worth of shit wrong with it. The noise is the top end of the motor. My head tech just about fell off his bench when he heard what he paid for this bike.
Buyer beware......be very aware, someone just threw sand on it and stuffed it in dry.
