    2011 ZX-10R vs 2011 BMW S1000RR

2011 ZX -10R ABS went on sale for $12,999 at Burnaby Kawasaki. Which bike would you buy?

I received out the door quotes from Burnaby Kawasaki: $15,000 for the ABS ZX10R

Pacific Yamaha BMW: $22,000.00 for the tri coloured S1000RR.

    Huh ?

Also needs to add the 08 - 11 CBR 1K's

Kawi has a very poor mid-range, and is much
    less than great for street.

    BMW is not much different...

Great top end, down in the middle.

BMW has GREAT electronics, and handles
better than the Kawi IMHO, but niether is
    as good as the 08 - 11 CBR's.

BMW also comes in at nearly double the price....

You wanna blow the wad ?

Go for the Aprillia RSVR for the performance win.

Just get a big tank... 20 mpg. WTF ?

    Personally, for 13 grand I'd get a

mid-ninties fireblade - useable bottom end and mid-range power, plus modern classic status
downhill mountain bike - a bit of danger
super motard - a million laughs and a ton of 'cool'
vacation - a couple weeks to do it all
    screw it, I'm leaving

Kawi. Ecu reflash, slip on and set your gearing to whatever you prefer with all the money you saved.

Ouch, I just can't see myself getting $7,000.00 worth of extra joy from the BMW.

Agreed with that others. 7k is a ton of money. Kawi has reportedly the best traction control, if that matters to you.

The CBR came out tops in a Best Buy edition of one of the British bike mags recently. It ruled over the others available
at the time and still does. As for the oil burning history, not an issue unless you're a keyboard commando.

There is no way the BMW is worth $7000 more. And I'll pick a Honda over a Kawi on just about any day of the week.

As per Sikorsky: Some did, warranty rebuild of
engine, and all is good after that - if you had
one of the ones with issues.

    From 5 K to 10 K, the CBR has a huge torque
advantage over all of the inlines - which is where
most ride, most of the time.

Kawi ECU diddle does not eliminate the mid-range
    deficit it suffers

08+ CBR are still faster around the track than
all the other litre bikes = easier to ride fast. Not
bad for a 4 year old design.

The CBR1000 is a sweet looking bike. I really like it. As long as the thing isn't an oil burner.

No way would I pay that premium to own the BMW, simply not a good value.

Are you going to be racing them? IMO 1000cc sportbikes are just a waste for the majority of street riding. The performance available to these machines is woefully under-utilized and with the 40km/h+ rules could make for a very expensive ride.

Yes there is a $7,000 premium on the BMW, however, in 3 years the BMW will be worth $12-14,000 and the Kawi will be worth 1/2 that

I've always thought that the Triumph 675 or the GSX-R 750 are a pretty good compromise for street/track/urban sportbike riding.

You can get a brand new 2010 GSX-R 750 at Blackfoot for $9,999

Take a look at MotoGP this year, where are the BMWs? Honda seems to be leading the pack for the most part. Do you want to ride or do you want to spend money maintaining. Expensive machines require expensive maintenance.

Would you marry the waitress - or the supermodel, and (realistically) expect a happy/smooth relationship?
