RIP threads ...
Again, the current tenor of an existing thread has got me to thinkin:
I think the truth is, that by gushing warm and fuzzies and sanitary condolences on "rider down" threads (in addition to pure respect and well meant condolences), most riders harbor some glimmer of hope that in some funny little way, they might be garnering some sort of 'good karma' or safety/protection for themselves out there.
The truth is, it's war out there: war against authorities wanting to impound your vehicle or fine you up your ying-yang for ANY reason they can find ("revenue recovery"); and its war aginst cars, trucks, steel bumpers and telephone poles and anything else that can snuff your little life out in an instant.
After all, human beings are just soft, vulnerable little 'butter-bags' - skin balloons of mush and blood. We mess up real easy.
Your thoughts and opinions are hereby invited, in this thread, which thus won't deraiil a real deceased persons thread of condolence (opinions of rightness, wrongness or anything elseness really aren't appropriate in such threads)

Repost x 100....I mean really?
Wanderer of the Wastes
the mob is fickle.
In one thread, we may unabashedly bash upon someone for their final mistake - and with devious delight, we decree 'darwin' at work.
Yet in another, we venerate the dead to the point where even a slight mis-step of imaginary etiquette shatters everyones eggshell egos.
I guess one would say the difference is between "what an obviously dumb thing to do", vs a "sad and unexpected thing"... but that is really just a matter of perspective.
After all, many would say just riding a motorcycle is 'darwin at work' ...
And to my knowledge, no one has yet printed out a BCSB RIP thread and used it to wallpaper their loved one's casket.
Personally, I'm leaning towards mummification - so when my time comes, perhaps my RIP thread can be printed out and used for stuffing my thoracic cavity. Then maybe I'll finally have had my fill of BCSB
IMO their should be a sub-forum dedicated to 'em. Enforce your etiquette as you see fit. Automated responses, the whole 9...
May be of some statistical significance over the long haul too.

"I dread beyond all else the growth of the petty tyranny of restrictive legislation, the transference of disciplinary authority from the judiciary to the constabulary, the abandonment of every constitutional safeguard of individual liberty."

I don't know if this is a good thing or not, or what it means but I went out today and bought a bit of extra gear I've been looking at, to help protect me in case of an accident.
DNAspark man, you are taking things out of context. One thread can be about a rider making a real stupid decision in his life and paying the price. Another thread can be about someone just trying to make a yellow light and paying the price. you suck the comprehension and logistics out of those threads and categorize it into a mindless swaying of a fickle group. It gets your point across, but intelligent people see right through it. I know exactly which two threads you are talking about, and I had different views on both, but with intelligent reasoning behind it, and principles and morals. I don't like to see somebody educated, like yourself, dumb it all down. I might not use the big boy words, but I got that pin your ass to the wall logic.
But I agree, maybe a sub forum would be a good idea.
It's impossible for people to police themselves...
If the mods want decorum in the RIP threads, they will have to enforce more rules and police the thread and hand out douchebag awards...
Good luck on trying to herd cats though!! haha

You soooo need a hug by the sounds of things. These morbid, introspective and soul-searching threads you keep posting sound like a scream for reassurance that life has some sort of meaning.

There is no "war". This is simply life and death. Embrace both and focus on the "NOW"
Only 1 more month to Pub Nights, hang in there
I'll get it made into a tapestry and have you wrapped in it...

Face Plant Rules:
"This is especially directed at you folks who seem to think it necessary to post random news articles about motorcycle accidents that have no connection to this forum. Save us all some trouble and knock it off, we're tired of cleaning up your threads."
"Please keep this forum about actual get-offs, either your own or someone you know. No gore, near misses, no Youtube or other video links that aren't related to an ADVRider member or friend, no random news articles of accidents unless the article is about a member or acquaintance of a member. Thanks for your help in keeping this forum clean of the above items."
