    2001 E39 M5 - 120,000 km.

    BMW E39 M5 $27,000

This car is simply best excuse for not buying a new car today. Many feel BMW E39 M5 is the fastest, best looking auto that came out of the M Division in BMW. This car continues to be a growing cult & fan favorite - its the performance sedan that "started it all". When it was introduced to the public in 1999 - there was nothing like it. At present, the E39 M5 is considered as one of the best known sport sedans ever produced and it has undeniably joined the elite list of the world's most coveted classic cars.

A clean BMW E39 M5 is an amazing car. BMW built 20,482 of these cars for worldwide consumption. North America received 9992 of those. Since owning this one I have seen only 2 others on the road in the lower mainland. Finding a clean, documented E39 M5 is getting harder to do. If you can find one in better shape than this one, buy it - don't wait.

I purchased this car from Autowest BMW of Richmond in November 2010. If it had not been in a BMW dealership, I would have passed on the car. However, they had just completed $12,000 worth of maintenance in order to bring it to the standard they demand in order to place it on their showroom floor.

The care and attention lavished on this car shows in it's condition and driveability.

    I am the second owner.

Local car that was purchased at The BMW Store in Vancouver.

    100% stock and unmodified.

Complete maintenance history from Day 1. Requires nothing, all maintenance is up to date.

Cabin air filters, engine air filters, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, transmission oil, differential oil and spark plugs changed in January 2011. Second engine oil and filter change done at beginning of summer.

    All systems work.

    Immaculate cosmetic and mechanical condition.

One accident in June 2008 causing $5600 in damage. The area that was damaged could not be found by the techs during my pre-purchase inspection, indicative of a minor shunt and an exemplary repair.

    Always garaged or covered.

Since I've crossed E39 M5 ownership off my bucket list and after 26,000 trouble free kilometres I'm looking at moving onto other automotive interests.

A pre-purchase inspection at the shop of your choice is recommended and encouraged.

Since I pasted this in the CL ad, I figure I may as well add it here as well. A basic list of the maintenance done:

A great deal of work done by Autowest BMW prior to my purchase left only a few things for me to take care of.

    Here's a quick rundown:

This first group is a list of things that were found on the PPI and were fixed:
Power Steering hose from cooler to resevoir.
    Lower control arm bushings.
Replace broken rear sway bar bracket.
    Replace leaking head gaskets.

The following are all the invoiced items done to the car by AutoWest BMW immediately prior to my purchase. It added up to around $12,000 .
Repair all scratches/tears in leather at New Creations - $561
    Scratches on body-Cerna Collision $1974
    In house mechanics:
    Replace heater control.
    Replace drive belts.
Dis-assemble, re-align, lube drivers seat tracks.
    Replace rear view mirror.
    Replace door panel trim.
Replace, repair, lube e-brake hande & cables.
    LR seat buckle replaces.
Centre brake light bulb & socket.
Replace rear main seal, clutch, press plate, Guibo, clutch spring.
    Replace crank case hoses.
    4 new Pirelli's.
Wheels sent to Greens for re-finishing.
    Replace 2 rear PDC sensors.
    Nav system replaced(the in-dash portion-screen, tuner, cassette).

Things I've done under my ownership:
    Engine, transmission and differential oils.
Engine oil, cabin air, engine air and fuel filters
    Spark plugs in.
The engine oil and filter was also re-done at the beginning of summer. Oil (even TWS 10-60) is cheap compared to the alternative, in my eye.
    Pixeled display repaired.
    Camshaft sensor replaced.
Full fluid (apart from brake) change.
The difference between you and me .........
