I know we are aware of the dangers of riding. This was brought to the forefront for me yesterday.
I had just stopped at the 132 St/Hwy 10 westbound red light. As I put both feet on the ground, a mid 90's blue Oldsmobile or Buick passed me on the left.
He was doing better than 80 km/h through that red light in the light rain. No horn, no brake lights lit up on the car. It was close enough that the wind gust from the car blew my bike over to the degree that I had to fight to hold it up.
Like most people, I check mirrors when I am pulling up to a stop. This guy was in my blind spot. And this is the closest call I have had in 30 years of riding.
Having seen first hand the results of a car/pedestrian collision at similar speeds, things like this are something particularly close to my heart.
My objective here is to just have the riders and drivers reading this be careful and alert. Lose the phone, take it slower in the rain and don't push that yellow light.
