Gotta love them.
I'm shopping for a new bike. Permission from SWMBO, cash and trade/trades in hand.
There is a lovely RSV4 Factory at a local dealer. Been sitting there forever, originally $24,000. I've been in there 4 times and have gotten 4 prices, ranging from $15,900 to $19,900.
I go in to talk turkey. State upfront I have 2 bikes I'd like to trade in but don't need to. Fella tells me they need their techs to look at them to see what kind of shape they are in.
It most likely didn't help my case when I told him my bike was in there before and I yanked it out since the service department wasn't able to offer anything other than use $1800 that I supply to "see if that fixes the problem". Then leave everything loose that hey had touched on the bike.My concluding remark about their techs was "All they can tell you is that it's a motorcycle and not a shopping cart".
So I sit down while he does his little game of running back and forth to the sales manager with his sheet of paper and pen. Really, it's 2011 and I'm 47 ...... do we need to play this stupid f%#@ing game?
So he comes back with offers of 60% of the retail value of the bikes ......... I would have gone 75-80% but not that low. And they are firm. I tell him I've already talked with AF-1, a popular Aprilia dealer in Texas. They can deliver a 2011 RSV4R APRC (launch control, traction control, wheelie control and quick shift) to Blaine for $17,800. This doesn't compare favorably for him since he want $16,500 for the 2010 Factory.
He played his best game. Unfortunately I was there to buy a f%$#ing motorcycle, not play a f%$#ing game.
Needless to say, I rode away with what I rode in on. And the Leafs will win the cup before I buy from there.
