No Headlights 2000 ZX9r
Headlights (hi/lo) work intermittantly when bike is not running. You must engage the starter to trip the headlight relay but if you tap the starter button the lights will go on (sometimes it takes a few taps). It seems the hi and low beam relays behind the gauges are functioning.
I removed tank and inspected wiring harness for obvious failure. None found.
I switched front relays and cleaned all connections with contact cleaner. No change.
After playing follow the lines reading schematics, I found that there is another , smaller, headlight relay in the junction box under the seat. I removed, dismantled, inspected and cleaned. No luck.
I replaced the junction box suspecting that that is where the power switches to generator power and that the relay there must have failed. Wasted money.
My multimeter skills fail so I don't know how to check the wiring, relays, rectifier or stator and can't understand the readings anyway. The battery is charging fine. All other lights are functioning normally also the beeping horn.Fuses are NOT blowing.
Is there a phase in the stator the would effect only the headlight relay? (Unlikely)
Faulty regulator/rectifier, again only headlight relay?
Not so obvious wiring harness failure causing malfunction or burning out relay?
