I've got a bit a problem to sort out on my girlfriends bike. She's got a 1988 Honda VTR 250, which she dropped a couple times and is generally a bit of a beater. Anyways, we've been trying to get it running for the last 10 months and have gotten the bike pretty much back to how it should be except for the chain and sprockets.
Along the line someone swapped out the 1988 transmission for an 89, so when we went to replace the chain and rear sprocket (that were long past the point where they should have been considered dead), we hit a wall. The 88 and 89 use different tooth spacing as well as (we later found out) different mountings on the front sprocket. Do any of you guys know someone in Van that would be able to get or make a custom front sprocket with the 89 mounting and for a 428 size chain?
The alternative is to go buy another new front and rear sprocket with a 520 size chain.
Personally I'm in favour of wiping the slate clean and getting all new parts for an 89, but she needs a bit more than a nudge from me to do so. Any thoughts?
