How much time did he have to react?

# Thread: How much time did he have to react?

1. ## How much time did he have to react?

Stole this from another board - graphic scenes, but for those who regularly fly through traffic this will give you pause.

3. So we all should travel at 20km/h in case some random ashole darts out in font of traffic? I seen a motorcyclist travelling at a regular speed, and an impatient asshole trying to squeeze a left hand turn BEFORE the rider. From the FAR right of his own lane, with no visibility.

4. Nobody said anything about 20km/h. However, I see people (sportbikes, cruisers, cars, dump trucks) going WAY faster than visibility or prudence would suggest is smart. We just happen to be on vehicles which don't survive even "minor" fender benders very well. No need to get all defensive, boys. I'm sure nobody here rails through traffic. Just consider your impact velocity if that impatient asshole pulls across your lane.

As a side note, I've enjoyed the responses to the 240 Gordy thread.

5. From what I see if the driver of the car in the on coming lane, went from his lane which was the far right side and made a left turn without being able to see well ahead of himself since his left side was covered by the cars up ahead.
Rider was traveling a bit fast and basically same principle. The car was hidden from view to the riders left side and basically sprung a surprise!
The what if and ect factors are numerous but basically it was a surprise for both parties. Could the rider have gone a bit slower? Yes. Did the driver of the car make a stupid choice by crossing over another lane before making his turn? Yes that was stupid too.

Seems to be a TON of videos coming from Russia now of accidents like this and more.

6. I re-watched this a lot.

Look at it full screen. The driver was definitely in a hurry, it's fully his fault (obviously). You see the car in front closer to the middle line - which if the driver wasn't there (and the other dude was directly behind rather than off to his right side a bit) he'd probably have seen the bike. Hastey turn. Not sure the bike rider could've done much in this case. It was a very abrupt turn, bike rider pays the price.

7. just a note. in Russia dash cams became very popular, so expect more crash videos.

one was used in a case when an argument on a side of a highway resulted in one dude pushing another into traffic. The pusher's wife backed him up in court. Only reason the driver didnt end up in jail was because he ran a dash cam...

So, what is the driver saying there when the crash occurs?

9. Looked like the guy in the car was going for a U-turn; swung wide and cranked it in.

You definitely get into a debate about if you had only stayed in bed that day you'd have never had an accident. That accident I can see happening to anyone while they were traveling at the limit or not, the guy in the car tried to thread the needle at speed.

Put it through the online translator; "In Soviet Russia car crushes you".

"oh my god, oh my god"

12. I thought the Russians were godless commies? That what we were taught in school!

13. That'll buff right out.

14. To answer the question, 1.5 seconds. 3/4 of a second it takes the brain to figuer out it's a threat, another 3/4 of a second to initalize the reaction (grab the brake lever).

How far you travel in 1.5 seconds depends on your speed. Also reaction time also depends on whether you ride with fingers on the brake(faster) or the whole fist on the grip(slower). I always expect the car to turn left so I always ride with a finger over the brake in traffic and slow back roads stacked with deer.

... Exactly my thought too.

Physics is a bitch, but it can be your friend too. I like the cut of your jib, sir.
