Here is the story:
Yesterday a strange dog showed up at my house. Just a microchip tag on the collar, no name. The chip is not yet registered so I could not get the owner from it. The dog is just a puppy, less than a year old, but he is thin. He isn't unhealthy; he is just one of those energetic puppies that never seem to be able to eat enough.
This happens all the time. We just seem to be at a crossroads for dogs. We actually have a sign that reads "We have found a dog. Is it yours?" that we put at the end our driveway when needed.
So yesterday I took the dog for a walk around the neighbourhood until I found a kid looking for it. When I go home with the kid to talk to his parents, his father is so busy on the phone that he practically pushes me out the door. I was not even able to get the name of the dog.
The house that they are in had been on sale for at least ten years and I was told by a neighbour that they had moved in less than a week ago and that they are renting it. It would seem that the man has gone through a divorce and has bought his son a puppy. These are not dog people.
So today the puppy shows up again around noon. This time he has broken free from his tree and is running around with 10' of leash dragging behind him. So I let him play with my dog (shadow) for a couple hours ... nobody comes looking for him. So I take the puppy home. The house is deserted and I find the tree that he is supposed to be tied to. I give him fresh water and tie him up properly. That was at 2pm. I just checked (6pm) and the house is still empty. The temp here is now 5* and dropping fast.
The puppy has no food, no shelter if it rains and is exposed to the elements.
Nobody ever wins an arguement with a neighbour about dogs. If I dig into him, he may well report my dog. It is a cycle I wish to avoid. Any suggestions?
Next time I check on him I will take some pics.
