Just bought myself an HTC Sensation 4G phone and I have tried several times to install HTC Sync on my PC so that I can sync my contacts, etc. Unfortunately only 2 out of the 3 components install correctly and I need a suggestion how to get the third installed.
I am running a newish Dell with Windows 7 installed and I do regular updates so the machine is pretty much as good as a Windows PC can get.
The component that won't install is a Microsoft C++ item so HTC support tells me it is a Microsoft issue which doesn't really help me. Seems kind of silly since the only time I have encountered a problem is trying to install their Sync software.
The error message I get is "The Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) installations appears to have failed" do you want to continue the installation.
After checking my installed programs I see that I have a bunch of C++ 2008 and 2010 items listed which would indicate to me that I am running a newer version of C++ and that is probably why I can't load a 2005 Service Pack......but.....I may be missing something since it seems kind of silly that a new phone with the latest version of their Sync software would be using something outdated.
Any suggestions how to get this thing to load ?
FYI...I have tried running the installation after the failure of this component to load and hoped that my newer versions would make it work. Sync worked....sort of.....most of the time I connected the phone it wouldn't recognize it, then it worked a couple of times and I was able to load my contacts, then I got 'unknown sync error' and it won't work anymore. Seems this 2005 C++ SP1 is needed so I have unistalled the components that did load and I am ready to do a fresh install of the whole thing once I figure out how to get the C++ part to work.
