I know, it's been awhile since that first epic thread on smart meters. I was really tempted to add to the first one, but that one got very long-winded very quickly.
If you want to review the facts/myths/opinions behind them, feel free to check out that old thread here.
Try to ignore the immature posters, as there was some otherwise good and productive sharing of information. Heck, over 5,000 views must say something about the interest level on the topic!
This new thread is about the reasons behind this program, hence a new and separate thread.
Anyways, the anti-smart meter movement is gaining ground. Now, as much as I've never been a big fan of Bill Vander Zalm, he had a very brief and concise interview that I think really summarizes things and got me to thinking:
So here is my theory as to the REAL reason behind this whole project:
To privatize BC Hydro and sell it to the Americans. That's it.
One billion dollars is something that BC Hydro can't afford right now. The project is sure to go OVER budget, like every other project, putting BC Hydro into severe financial jeopardy. It will bankrupt BCHydro. But I think they're doing it on purpose.
When that happens, the USA can come to our rescue, bail out and purchase BC Hydro and control our resource that they've been so hungry for. But not only that, they will also own all of the user information that is collected by the smart meters and smart appliances of the future.
Sound too far fetched? BC Hydro President and CEO Dave Cobb recently resigned. Let's face it nobody wants to be captain of a sinking ship:
Oh, and here is a news story about a couple who have successfully made BC Hydro REMOVE their smart meter and install their analog meter again:
