It was an extremely positive meeting yesterday with Minister Lekstrom and staff. It was agreed that Lane Filtering is a viable safety strategy and the Ministry staff will do some work on “best practices” etc. as well as look at different scenarios for implementation and regulations after which another meeting will be held to go over different options. During this time the Minister will be reaching out to his colleagues to discuss the proposal while ensuring that the safety benefits are recognized first and foremost. Legislation would have to be changed to reflect the allowance of Lane Filtering in the Motor Vehicle Act. Minister Lekstrom asked me to thank all of you that had taken the time to write in.
Crack Sealant and Paint used as Road Markings
At the MLA Ride this year I had a discussion with the then “new” Transportation Minister regarding the crack sealant and paint used on our roads in BC. I was assured yesterday by the assistant Deputy Minister Dave Duncan that the Ministry is looking around the world for something with a better abrasive/adhesive quality. It was explained that the paint is an extremely tough one as because there needs to be a reflective component (glass bead) for night time vision.
