FS; 1988 Nissan Maxima SE
In my search for a Nissan pickup, I came across a 1 owner 88 Maxima SE for sale. It piqued my interest, as these cars are basically extinct. I called, spoke to the original owner, and went to look at it. Garage kept since brand new, clean title, 194k km, and the SE option package, which included blacked out trim, sport seats, 4 spoke leather wrapped wheel, electronic adjustable suspension, and a rear spoiler. I remember seeing these things new, and always thought they were a sharp looking car. Finding one this well cared for and original, I had to snap it up. Not the smartest thing I've ever done, as I still need a truck, not another car. Therefore, I'm putting it back up for sale.
Since purchase last week, I've replaced all 4 brakes, left balljoint, installed 4 brand new General Arctic Max snow tires, Motul oil service, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, and 2 injector harness pigtails. Runs like a new car, and just passed Aircare with flying colours. The previous owner "thinks" she had the timing belt done a couple years ago. Of course I don't believe her, so timing belt, tensioner, and water pump will be replaced after Christmas. I'll flush the coolant at the same time, and replace the accessory belts. I've also got a transmission filter kit on the way, and will be servicing it with Motul ATF.
Car has power windows, door locks, glass power moonroof with sunshade, power mirrors, great heater, cold AC, and "Nissan Dynamic Audio", including an in dash graphic equalizer. Despite being 24 years old, all this works, although 1 speaker is a bit crackly. It also has electronic adjustable suspension system, which shockingly, seems to function.
As far as things wrong with it, there is a small exhaust leak in the front pipe. It did not effect Aircare, and I'm debating whether to fix it or not. It could also use a wheel alignment, which I will likely have done in January, if it does not sell before then. The original owner parked it daily in downtown Vancouver, so it has a handful of dings on the driver's side, and the driver's side mirror is broken. I'm currently seeking a replacement.
I have the car on Craigslist for $2900obo, which I admit is rather optimistic. I'm not in a rush to sell it, as I will be driving it all winter if it doesn't sell. Realistically, I expect it to sell in the $2000-2300 ballpark, but will entertain all offers. This is a very nice car, in exceptional shape, and with a 3.0L V6, it has no trouble keeping up with and passing cars much much newer. In the short time I've owned it, it's getting 10L/100km, which is very respectable.
Would make a great commuter, 2nd car for the family, car for your kid, etc. It qualifies for collector plates in 2014, and I have no doubt it would pass in it's current condition. $2000-2500 buys a beater 15 year old Corolla, or a clean and well maintained Maxima.
Replaced the entire exhaust midpipe this week, and have a nice used mirror being installed this weekend. I recently took this car on a 300km trip into Washington. It returned 8L/100km! Better than an RC51.
