So I decided the other day to do some maintenance on the new '08 Tuono in my garage. Just a couple of quick jobs, the bike only has 87 kilometres on it, how long could it take?
First I need to address the leaking coolant system. Aprilia uses these wonderful one use clamps that almost but not quite seal. Down to Gregg Distributing, 5 new clamps, new coolant, some Water Wetter and bingo! Job done.
Now time to set up the suspension sag, only a quick hour and a half or so.
Then, time to correctly bleed the rear brake since it was pretty well useless when it arrived. Bike on stands, rear wheel off (hmmm, that axle is pretty dry of grease) right muffler off, caliper hoisted into the air and tied off, system bled. While I'm playing with Dot 4, may as well bleed the front calipers and master as well, it seemed soft. And the clutch.
That dry axle is bugging me. Something about ......... Italians not using grease. Now I remember. The rear suspension on the old bike was pretty dry and seized up after 3 years of riding. That took a small pile of money, several days and a Transport Canada supplied bearing press to put right. Looks like I'll pull that since it is kind of accessible with the rear wheel already off and I no longer have access to a bearing press. There are only 4 joints, 32 loose needle bearing per joint, that'll be a blast!
But I'll need to put a jack under the bike to hold it up when I pull the shock.
And I need to pull the exhaust to do that.
Which reminds me that I wrapped the exhaust on the '07 to help keep engine temperatures down.
Which means on Boxing day I'll be heading to Mopac to see if they are open and pick up an exhaust wrap kit so I should get that exhaust off today .......
And I'll need to pull the front axle as well and make sure there is some grease on that.
And I hate the meep meep horn. Stebel again? That reminds me, I gotta fix the Stebel on the wife's 696 since it's not working. But the horn on her Volvo rocks ...... I need to source one of those.
But if I change the horn I'll need a relay, an accessory fuse box ....... may as well put a set of heated grips on again. That can be wired into the accessory fuse box ......
And there is still the restrictor in the snorkel to remove, a 15 tooth front sprocket to install ..........
Why the fock did I sell my '07 T?
