Just wondering what some people on here think of the proposed pipeline projects?
I am all for the doubling of the trans mountain pipeline to Vancouver but have mixed feeling and am somewhat undecided on the Northern Gateway Pipeline.
The pipeline and tanker traffic increase in Vancouver will directly affect me and the industry I work in and I feel pretty secure about the safety measures in place in Vancouver Harbor in regards to spill response and tanker safety.
There is a lot of spill protection equipment in Vancouver Harbor as was just shown to me in recent training sessions with Burrard Clean.
When the big black oil tankers move through the harbor they have 4 3000bhp tugs on them an 2 pilots so it's pretty safe.
The Northern Gateway Pipeline however I am unsure about.
I know it will create jobs in the north but wonder if Alberta has much more to gain from this than BC?
I see a lot of miss information on the news and uninformed people spouting half truths as fact.
I think some of these people need to realize that the world runs on oil and no amount of banging on their bongo drums will change that.
I was watching the west block today and they said that even after all the meetings and debates in the end the cabinet can ignore the commission and vote to approve this project.
So I am wondering if this is all just a show and in the end it will happen regardless of how the people of BC feel about it?
