Because if I understood a news report this afternoon, thatís what the city of Vancouver is proposing. They have asked for over $400,000 to replace the Polices aging Harleys with 20 new Road Kings. (The numbers may not be totally accurate as I only heard it on the radio).
I donít know if this bothers anyone else but I feel quite strongly that if we as taxpayers are being required to foot the bill for an update of our local forces fleet, then I would like to see a more sensible suggestion when it comes to the choice of vehicle.
The Police should be equipped with efficient modern machines with a proven track record that offer value to us. I hope some of the other manufacturers will lobby to offer what they have as an alternative to these prehistoric fashion accessories. Four bikes spring to mind immediately as being infinitely more suitable and cheaper to boot. BMW R1100RS, Yamahaís 1300, The trusty old Kawasaki Concours (get two for the price of one Harley) or, best of all, the Honda ST1300. All have shaft drive, three have ABS, three have been used by other Police forces and have superb track records and are available with all the Police add on goodies.
Itís our money, Iíd like to see us get the most bang for the buck.
