In a change, Corporal Robinson decided a trial by jury (which was what he wanted first) was not for him and went for a judge.

My guess is he figured a jury could not be seated that would be impartial, what with his prior deeds and all the publicity surrounding this and the airport incident.

My hope is that the judge would like to make an example of this person using his position to avoid repercussions of his acts, and throw the book at him (such as it is). Unfortunately, with our system, even if the judge wishes to do this, the ruling will be bound by precedent.

generally this speaks of a defense built around the technicalities of the letter of the law...something a COP is more than well schooled in....

I hold little hope for a good outcome here, this Mountie has been twisting the law for his benefit since he raced home for drinks after the accident....

Apparently they are trying to disallow his admission that he snuck home and drank more booze, saying he was not properly informed of his rights. I think that is what the CBC had on it today...

Yeah, I think the defense is hoping to make the trial hinge on the technical fact that he was supposed to be informed of his rights, not whether or not he knew or should have known them. That is what I got from CBC.

It's disgusting how he gets a mere hand slap where as a regular civilian probably would still have gotten the impaired driving leading to death charge.

The justice system has long ago proven itself incapable of dealing with things like this. There will as always, be incomplete and inadequete "punishment" for what he did. We've all seen it before,,,it's getting worse. This is a foregone conclusion, we know the proven guilt will be hard won, definitely appealed, and even if found guilty on appeal, the sentence will leave the greater 'non-bleeding heart' majority of the public shaking their heads, wishing for capital punishment as an over-reaction. The victim's family will be floored that their son is worth but a monetary fine, maybe,,,,,,,the loss of the job of the satan entrenched soul that has now taken 2 innocent lives from this earth.

And here lies the biggest fear that society seems to be over-looking. That this monster who would not only be in charge of forcefully electrically killing someone while being gang-piled by fellow trained RCMP members, will now be given special status, I will call "lack of guilt of vehicular homicide by reason of ethnic status". We all know what I'm talking about. That this current and wage paid RCMP member in good standing could very easily continue to be a law enforcement officer in your neighbourhood. He could pull you over in your car, bike, or stop you as a pedestrian, retain you, investigate you, all while having free and easy access to pepper spray, tazer, and hand gun. Tell me this disturbs you as much as the whole fucking thing disturbs me.

    Justice,,,,fuck off.

    Steve

Just because he is till drawing a pay cheque (an insult to the other members of the RCMP) does not mean he is a member "in good standing."

If he ever dons a uniform again, I would be surprised and disappointed.

And K-Rod, we are of the same opinion on this.
