So, plans are being made to go to Japan again for another trip. This time I'm pretty hell bent on riding a bike over there.
I'll be riding around the Osaka area so most likely open roads and countryside (perfect).
However, given that a foreigner with an international drivers permit can ride any displacement motorcycle (locals are restricted to 400cc unless they pass the ridiculously difficult large displacement test), it would be nice to ride something a little speedier than most of the 400ccs at rental shops... My secondary objective is to seek out some late night underground street racer gatherings (huuuggeee) and if given the chance, to outrun some cars in a straight line.
However, I've been reading that there are severe HP restrictions for J market bikes. CBR1000RRs reduced to the '100hp-across-the-board' limit.
And then... there's the Japan BMW motorrad website which for all its models are quoting HP specs same as the rest of the world.
http://www.bmw-motorrad.jp/jp/ja/bik...ion=¬rack=1 (it says 193ps).
Does anyone have any experience there? There are shops that rent out BMW bikes. Maybe I should give them a call.....
Aside from being able to get my hands on a fast bike (read: North American spec), does any one have recommendations on roads, sights to see which shops to check out etc?
Or, if anyone wants to talk me out of street racing, I'm open to that too!
