Can someone help me understand this? I was reading this article:
I then found a link to this buried int he comments, scroll to the bottom for current wages:
Apparently these salary's are for 10 months, so add 17% i you want to compare to an annual salary. Remember, they don't actually work the whole year. Additionally they get 4 weeks of vacation, pension, banked sick time.
They keep saying it's not about the wages, and yet the government appears to want to negotiate on everything BUT the wages and now they are saying strike? (although it appears they won't this week).
The government mandates 0% wage increases.
The few teachers I know that I have spoken to suggest that they'd rather just have more money for classroom stuff. That often they spend money out of pocket for classroom teaching things (crafts, etc..) as they can't get it out of their own budget. I've spoken to teachers in Vancouver, Surrey and Coqutilam.
Any teachers here care to comment? Or spouses of? I'd like to get a better idea of wtf is going on as I'm pretty confused -- or perhaps I'm not and I have a very clear picture and BCTF is a bunch of &)*@&@#@.
Useful replies only please.
