A shout out to all the knowledgeable contractors out there...
One of my buddies recently bought a "fixer upper" apartment (strata building) and is doing renovations himself. He's got a non-load-bearing wall between the kitchen and living area which has a small (serving) window, and one of the things he's started doing is increasing the size of this window. Turns out you need to get a permit to do these kinds of modifications, and there can be fines attached if you get this permit after you've started work.
What's the best course of action? "Un do" the work and then apply for a permit? Go for the permit as is? What kind of fines are associated with this stuff? Help a brotha out, I don't want another beer drinking session ruined by constant bitching about bylaws and fines.
And no, this is not one of those "so my buddy got impounded yesterday, what should he do?" stories
