So I am on my way home from Vegas and my girlfriends bike starts throwing fits from going through the Nevada desert for 8hrs at 90 mph.
First the coolant overflows and boils and a great little shop sells us a cap and some maxima coolant additive, problem solved.
Next morning the bike decides it will only run on 3 cylinders and after looking for a shop to help we go to a Yamaha dealer who just basically said "sorry we are too busy but you could leave it here for 2 weeks and maybe we could look at it".
So after changing the outside plugs on the r1 it is no better and have to ride it on 3 cylinders to Eugene.
At a Buger king along the way I figure out which cylinder is not firing and of course it is one of the inside ones.
To get at these you need to go in through the airbox which is a bitch, but I get the stick coil out and can see it is burnt so I swap it with an outside one to make a change out easier. So we ride the rest of the way to Eugene and get a hotel.
The next morning I phoned every motorcycle shop from Eugene to Portland trying to find a stick coil and nobody had one or could even offer any help.(I even asked if they had an old used one as they are all pretty much the same for most bikes).
Finally my girl got a guy at a little hole in the wall shop who said he would pull one from his own bike and sell it to us to help us out.
This guy saved our ass and the bike is running perfect again.
So I just wanted to say when the big shops look in the book, put you on hold and don't seem to care somewhere there is a independent guy or shop that will help and will do what the big shops cannot seem to do because the don't have the knowledge or just don't care.
So this is a shout out from me to the little shops that go the extra mile and will get you back on the road when the big shops will just laugh their evil laugh with $$ signs in their eyes.
