I mentioned in a long ago thread that we bought a 46" LCD Samsung TV 3 years ago and paid a pretty penny back then as it was the top of the line and LED was just coming out and was 1000 bucks more.
We paid 2495 before taxes, tried to bargain with the salesman but he suggested to give us free wall mounts and HDMI and a blueray in the deal as you want to keep the price on the TV if your planning extended warranty.
I tend to buy the extended warranty on big ticket items because it just makes sense, we got a 4 year extended.
fast forward 3 years and my great TV, actually still very happy with it even after three years, died. The screen Got washed out and devoid of color. Called in the warranty and they sent a guy down to have a look at it and took pictures. I got a call at weeks end that its not fixable and gave me a claim # to take to Best Buy.
We went to Victoria and they said oh yes great, well, just to let you know the warranty depreciates over the years so we can only give you $1500.00 towards another TV. I was like WTF I was told I would get full value when I bought it. Sorry they should have told you about depreciation.
Furious, I took the TV to Nanaimo Best buy to pick up the $1500.00 TV as its closer to home. They said WOW are you ever lucky you got that warranty. You get full Value + Tax so you will have $2800.00 toward a brand new TV.
The TV geek was doing back flips showing me all the new TV's out now and telling me all the great warranty stories he's dealt with.
We are now am the proud owner of a 60 " Samsung LED with another 4 year warranty and money left over for a new 32gig wifi IPAD for the wife. It is an amazing television and was very happy to hang it on the wall.
Moral of the story : If you don't get the answer your looking for, don't argue, go somewhere else !!
Also always say YES to the warranty because TV's just aren't made like they used to be and if it last 4 years your lucky.
