I'm feeling like a touristy day, and I'd be delighted to have company. The general objective is to poke up the S2S, stopping at the major waterfalls - water levels are high and the flow is at its most spectacular right now. We'll ignore Shannon Falls on the way up - more later - but perhaps hit it on the way back down.
To make this work, we need to get away from the church at the top of Taylor Way at 8:30, so meet time 8:20 (fully fuelled and ready to ride).
1. Ride to Brandywine Falls (100kms, 1 hour). Walk in (10 mins: flat, easy), enjoy the view (spectacular!), take pictures, walk out = 1 hour.
2. Ride to Alexander Falls (Callaghan valley - 15kms, 10 mins). No walking, cool view, more photos = 1/2 hr.
3. Ride to Nairn Falls (50km = 40 mins). Walk in (15mins, not strenuous, but not quite flat), admire view, take photos, walk out (1 - 1 1/2 hrs).
4. Retire to Big Sky for lunch at 2pm. Socialize till 3:30. Then... a variety of choices.
a. If you're keen, rip the Duffey a time or two (1 - 2hrs), then spend 2hrs getting back to Vanc.
b. If you want to complete your collection of S2S waterfalls, ride to Squamish and stop at Shannon Falls on the way down and walk right up into the 'spray zone' - the light is good after 2pm, and dreadful before...
c. If you've REALLY had enough, just ride home, glancing at Shannon Falls on the way by.
If you'd like to join me, please post up by mid-afternoon Friday, cuz I want to reserve lunch spots at Big Sky to make sure they don't get a big surprise, resulting in long-delayed service.
Any pace you like, so long as it's mild... the objective is not speed, and 'the craving' can be assuaged after lunch up on the Duffey, if you're so inclined.
Bring comfy shoes for walking (you can do this in flip-flops, but runners might be better at Nairn). And since it'll be hot, it'd be ideal to have pair of shorts to switch into and either hard luggage you can leave your jacket and riding pants in, or a backpack to carry 'em along. A waterbottle will be appeciated. Cameras are pretty much mandatory...
