Millions in traffic fines help local police
The TimesJuly 10, 2012
Mission and Abbotsford have received their annual allotment from provincial traffic fines to put toward policing services, crime prevention and public safety costs.
Abbotsford will see $1,934,526 from the Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing program, an arm of the province's Strategic Community Investment Fund, while the District of Mission will receive $440,429.
The grant money comes from ticket fines and court-imposed fines on violation tickets. The amount of money a municipality receives is based on its contribution to total municipal policing costs.
Since 2001, Victoria has directed $975 million to communities from the Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing program and Small Community Regional District grants.
