It's an excellent example of how and why the public will embrace stupid laws. Most people feel that laws are for everybody else. How else does one explain the logic of support for incorrectly set speed limits when there is majority non-compliance? Or other laws designed for micro management when there is no hope they'll be enforced?
The answer is that nearly everybody feels THEY are able to drive and ride as they please while the law is for the other guy who is too stupid and needs to be told what to do.
