Any manager in a retail store of any kind, I need your help.

Hi all. I have a bit of a problem. My friend is from Taiwan. He is here under a working holiday visa an has applied for a fulltime work visa which is good for 2 years. By then he can apply for PR and become a canadian citzen.
He is currently working as an assitant manager in a retail store in Vancouver.
Long story short, yesterday his employer was contacted by Service Canada and told he was not accepted for a work visa because his salary was not enough. He currently makes $15.00 and Service Canada says the average salary in BC for an assitant manager in a retail store is $22.50.
Is there anyone out there that is an asistant manger in a retail store making that much money?

Hes is chalanging the decision by service canada starting today.

What I need from anyone out there is to either post up where you work( the store name) and what the salary is of an assitant manager.
If anyone was a manager and is willing to put something like that on letter head and fax it to me that would be even better.

This is a man who for 2 years has worked and lived in Vancouver. Who has learned the language, has lost his accent and has adapted the the Canadain life. meanwhile they are letting people into this country to work and live without even knowing the language beacuse they fit into a certain job code.

thanks everyone. anything will help at this point.
    Eddie

I understand the Government's position. Displacing jobs that pay OK because you can get someone who has a visa to work for peanuts is not cool.

i agree, with cost of living so high here, tax through the roof, gas prices, and real estate/rent. 15/hr is hard to live on. doable, but hard.

AM at Sbux make less than 30,000 a year.

AM at Macdonalds make $12 an hour I think.

true enough, but in retail the title of Assistant Manager is often given out as a substitute for a living wage....

ok. I found out today from service Canada that they take these numbers from workingincanada.gc.ca.
these numbers are so out to date and out of touch. I contacted Stats Can and got the info from them showing the figure to be $14.25.
I then talked to Service Canada again and the guy actully lives here in the lower mainland. He said he understands that the numbers are wrong but the numbers are the numbers. He actully took it apon himself yesterday to look into it and is taking it up with his boss on monday.
    It might all work out.

Pretty simple really, anyone who works for the government is mind blown that there are people out there that make less than half of what they get paid.

AMs at Safeway make $29.02/hr. someone getting promoted to management trainee starts off at 15 something/ hr plus $2.50/hr for every hour they work when store manager or 1st assistant isn't present. Safeway is probably one of the highest paying retail chains for managers.
