So for awhile now I have been thinking a DRZ 400sm would be a perfect all rounder for me for commuting and for fun stuff.
The problem is I cannot seem to find one locally and am even considering buying a brand new one.
I have never purchased a brand new bike before and am not sure how much room I would have to bargain.
Here is why I think it would be a good bike for me.
I work near downtown and live in Poco so I have about a half hour commute in light traffic either on the #1 or Barnett.
The Drz is cheap insurance and good on gas not to mention fun to ride.
I could also use this bike for some of the more long distance dual sport rides if I put a bigger tank on it and more off road type tires.
The bikes I have are not as good on gas or just are not well suited to city use.
My xr250 needs oil changed every 500miles and will only do about 110k downhill while getting ready to go into a death wobble and my zx 12 burns more gas than my Acura integra and costs 4x what a drz does to insure.
I like my xr250 for trail rides and my zx12 for touring, they are good for what they do but city stuff is not on their list.
My only real concern about the drz400sm is highway riding but seeing as I only go from Brunette to Hasting I figure it should handle it well.
I test rode a 2012 and was surprised at how well it accelerated but did not take it on the highway.
They seem like a hard bike to find and seem to keep their value fairly well.
I have no idea what would be fair to ask a dealer to drop the price by if I am paying cash.
