Based on having the best two days of my motorcycling life last September, I have registered again for the Motofit weekend at ORP Sept 22-23. Frankly, I found the instructional element of the weekend quite poor, but there were a few things to be learned if you thought carefully about what was being said and how that might apply to 'you', and the riding kinda takes care of itself - it's a frikkin hoooooot! As 'Mechanic' says (linked below), this is a superb, undulating, continuously entertaining track, with a huge variety of corners and a great blend of swooping bends, blind crests, and adrenaline-producing straights. All this is set in the middle of open, empty, beautiful golden rolling grasslands. Plus, unlike The Ridge, dry weather is pretty much guaranteed.
So, I'm going. The drive down is a bit over 600kms and takes 8 or 9 hours (based on last year, and including a slow hour or 90 minutes getting thru Seattle and 405 S), so I'm taking a day off work and leaving Vancouver by noon latest of Friday Sept 21st. I will camp on site (there is really no place else to stay, as Grass Valley OR is 5 miles away and is tiny), and the gates close for evening entry at 10pm. I've got a big family camping tent, and I'll take a cooler and a Coleman stove, altho there is 'basic' but acceptable food available on site. I found myself a bit pooped after each day of riding last year and not looking forward to preparing a complicated dinner, so subsisted on canned stew, bread, and beer for dinner. There is fuel, air, parts, and advice (including dynoing) on site, plus soft drinks (strictly no alcohol during the day!!!), so the set-up is very comfortable and convenient.
I'm driving a Pathfinder, and I will rent a U-haul trailer again, as per last year. The Sunday session wraps up about 4 - 4:30pm, and if the camp stuff is already mostly packed, trailering the bikes and exiting can be done in half an hour or so. Including a break for a fast-food meal in Cle Elum, I made it back to the border just before midnight.
I'm wondering if anyone wants to join me, to share gas and trailer costs. There's enough space for two in my tent, or you could bring your own if you prefered. We can discuss food, tools, etc, etc, depending on your needs - there's plenty of room in the SUV.
It'd be best if my 'company' had a Nexus card, as that would save time at the border, but if not, well... it's the lineup.
