Deer in Rut, Daytime strikes are a concern.

Since the nice fall riding weather continues and the deer are on the move it is perhaps a time to pause and think about animal strikes. The local roads Cypress, S2S, 99 just north of the Peace Arch, Mount Seymour, etc, I have seen deer at all of these place and with Deer Season now open now animals will be moving and acting crazier than normal. The craziest place I just missed hitting a deer was south of the Bellis Fair Mall as it crossed I-5 at a full run.

Here is a sobering update on deer strikes from the Washington Post

I am sure I am not the only rider on this forum who has hit an ungulate, I don't recommend it.

A deer surprised me on the Ioco road near that old corner store middle of the day. Fortunately it got well clear of the roadway before it was a close call!

Time for a new bike anyways, the valves needed to be inspected and adjusted after the first 100,000km's... not worth it. Write it off and start fresh!

    LOL!

good advice, also the first wet roads in a long time are coming, slippery riding out there in the mornings....... be careful if you are still commuting, this morning in Surrey, the roads were greased...

So many super stupid deer on the road. On Saturday while riding north on 5A, I braked to avoid deer that were running across the highway. One hesitated, and another actually ran into it and knocked it off it's feet. Funny and ridiculous and a little too close.
