Just gonna suck it up and toss it out there. AGAIN this year
Sorry about the early start but health wise I have no choice
I have just copied last years plea for help but have added big changes for this year.
This year is very different different for me. I am off on medical leave due to brain cancer, so chemo and radiation have become my life. This situation does not change my feelings about Christmas for my tenants, staff and building. Having Christmas for them is huge not only for them but me.
My Mom and close friends know what this means to me and have stepped up to help me accomplish Christmas #3 at the Gastown Hotel.
My Mom has opened up her garage ( as we live in a townhouse with no storage ) this year for any drop offs as I can not guarantee pick ups due to my chemo treatments. Again this year I will buy 100 stockings to fill and fill I will. I will stuff 100 gift bags with whatever I can. This is where you come into play. Any donations !! Lightly used clothes, hygiene products, socks, towels etc. PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING IS WELCOMED !!! $1 stores are perfect !!!
So many of you made a huge difference last year and I can not thank you enough !!!
PM me or my other half Zombie for my Moms address or any questions !!
My plea from last year :
I am the Program Manager at the Gastown Hotel at 110 Water Street. This being one of the 16 buildings BC housing bought 3 years back. I have 93 rooms, 10 x 12 in size.
The Gastown Hotel not so many years ago was notorious for drug dealing, prostitution, murders, rapes, theft, etc. Today our building still has many of the same tenants but has become an amazing community. We still have mental health issues, addiction issues, behaviour issues, etc but what we have that is different today in the building is people who trust and care to the best of their abilities. They take care of each other, they look out not only for themselves, but each other and staff. Time, love, patience, guidance, and some tough love has turned the Gastown around.
This will be the Gastowns RD Christmas. My family, staff, and I worked tirelessly for the weeks leading up the Christmas, collecting donations from where ever we could. I spent all my spare time and weekends driving to wherever to pick up items. To say the least, the Gastown Christmas was amazing. To see tenants come down in their best clothes, including some in (old/used) suits. Our ladies dressed in their fanciest clothes to enjoy and celebrate Christmas as a family. To say the least many tears were shed and hugs were endless. Priceless
This year, time is constricted on my end and donations are very few. I do not have the time due to work related obligations that have been added to my plate. I am reaching out to all of you gents and asking for a hand. If you have any lightly used or new clothing you can part with, I promise it will be accepted and given with love. Any items that most of us take for granted like a bar of soap, (hygiene products) towels, face cloths, socks, pillow cases, sheets, blankets etc can and will make a huge difference in someones life. Our tenants are all different shapes and sizes. As well all different ages ranging from 23 - 85. I stuffed stockings and fill bags with whatever I can.
Save on meats is helping provide our Christmas meal this year which also helps lighten the load
feel free to PM if you have any questions.
