I successfully traded my 2007 husky with 14,000 kms on it for a 2008 Suzuki DR-Z400 (non SM) with 20,000 km's on it. plus over a grand to put in the bank.
Timing chain needed to be replaced on it the husky. and after some research these buggers need to be replaced every 10,000-17,000 kms!!
valve adjustments every 5,000 kms (which I had down to a hour)
Just knowing the fact that Husqvarna has shut down their warehouse and are not shipping to Canada anymore was a huge piss off. Parts are hard to come by. International were my only place to order through and even they were somewhat unreliable because of where they order parts through from. http://www.husqvarnaoutlet.com/
I even ordered through the outlet. every time it took 2-5 days to get a reply back from them.
Parts were back ordered for weeks and sometimes months.
I had to sell it! couldn't take it anymore as I use it as a commuter to work.
Buyer from Craigslist. Gave him everything i had with it, told him about the timing chain. gave him feeler gauges and such and boatloads of extra parts.
suzuki didn't come with much but I was super happy with the condition. new dual purpose tires. less than 50% on chain and sprockets. valve adjustments done before the 24,000 km mark. Manual chain tensioner installed. No dents in gas tank, exhaust or anywhere. a few minor scratches in the plastic. Carb cleaned out awhile ago.
I have put over a 1,000 kms in the past 2 weeks on it and super happy with it. gas on it is good. insurance is $80 cheaper than the husky! I think I made a good decision giving up the husky for a drz.
anyone have any recommendations for this bike? what to look out for. what to keep extra parts of?
