this morning on the way into work a coworker witnessed a dumptruck clipping a van while they were merging onto the 91 northbound. Van driver pulls over, dump truck keeps going. Coworker gets up alongside the dump truck (moving slowly in traffic) and yells at him that he hit a van, dumptruck keeps going. He gets the plate number of the dump truck, plate number on the trailer and calls it in to the delta police. They don't take the info and tell him to call icbc. Seriously?
So if someone hits someone in traffic and drives away, it's NOT a worthy offense for the police to go track them down when they have the plates and a witness not involved? I'm trying to understand, it seems obvious it would be at least a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident. It's very possible the dumptruck driver didn't know he hit him and couldn't understand what my coworker was trying to tell him, but he did leave the scene of an accident and the driver of the van is going to get boned if he couldn't get the plate of the dump truck.
I'm at a loss to explain the lack of enforcement here.
