In Febuary I picked up my 1999 Katana with 50000 km on it. The previous owner barely rode it and didn't know the maintanance history on it so I knew this winter would mean spending time and money on it. Over the summer. I put 13000 trouble free KM on it. So the shop wanted 3-4 hours labour to do the valve adjustment and carb sync. I thought it was reasonable however I decided that instead I would learn the task.
I spent about $150 bucks on the tools I needed and started digging to removed the valve cover. I took a lot of pics, bagged the bolts and labeled all the pieces as there was a lot of stuff to remove. I took my time and sure enough the bike is up and running again. *insert big sigh of relief here* I took me well over 3 three hours but I made sure I went slow and double checked everything I did. I can't wait to ride it again.
