To whom this may concern,
My experience at Essential Motorcycle Services in May 2012.
I had just recently purchased a condo that was going to be completely redone…so I advised Ted (the shop owner) that I was extremely strapped for funds when bringing my bike in to get it fixed as it lost power and made an abnormal sound while being driven. I told him to let me know in advance what the problem would be so that I could decide whether or not it would be outside of my budget as I also advised him that I maybe selling the bike “as is” instead of fixing it. He wasn’t sure what the problem was exactly at first, then he advised that he would replace the igniter coil. I told him if he can find a used part I would be okay with this, as long as it wouldn’t cost much. The price was advised for the part in advance. He also told me that if I wanted “to be around” to enjoy my condo that I would need to purchase new tires, so reluctantly I did. I advised to get me the cheapest tires there was and suggested a brand but he advised he could not find those tires and insisted on placing a different brand on my bike, and so I did. Once a voice message was left on my phone I was advised on one amount which was extremely more then what was originally expected, and then I came into the shop after speaking with 2 different people over the phone. The price went up even more, and I was advised that the spark plugs were changed, the filter, the tires, the coil, and the electrical alarm was taken out of my bike…the costs would be 5 times what I expected and 4 times what I was originally told. Although I was in fear of not getting my bike back I objected to the quote and he advised he could cut me a break on the price (nothing substantial), also that if I paid him in cash I could save on the labour costs…and so reluctantly I had no choice but to pay Ted the money. The visa was used for the parts, and cash was used to pay for the labour. The bike doesn’t work properly to this day, and is no longer in use and I have taken it off the insurance as I can no longer afford to pay for repairs on this bike. Ted is a seemingly nice person but does not adhere to his customers concerns, nor does he understand or seem to care when they are concerned with cost.
