I have a 2009 Ducati 696 with termignoni exhaust on it. I bought some exhaust shields off a 2011 model because they are nicer that year. Problem: the heatshields either are not meant to match up to the termi mount points, or the mount points may even be in a different location between the two years. Bottom-line is that they are misaligned and don't fit.
But I'm not ready to give up. Hopefully someone here can help me fab up a couple little brackets! (one for each side)
So here's how it looks with no heat shield mounted:
and I want it to sit like this once mounted:
but the problem is that when I line up the holes on the heatshields with the mounting points on the pipe, it looks like this:
The mounting points need to be about an inch and a half towards the rear and approx an inch higher. I basically envision building a small bracket that bolts onto the existing mount points, and then the heat shields in turn bolt onto that. This is a very crude mockup of what I'm picturing:
Basically 2 arms that extend out of the mounting points, and a bar between them to give it a little more strength. I imagine getting it lined up properly would be a little trial and error. I thought about trying to mock it up with some of this stuff:
Anyhow, is there anyone good at fabricating small detail type of stuff that might be able to help me out with this? The actual brackets themselves should be super basic, it's just a matter of getting the alignment right so that it sits in place as it should. I don't know what the best materials would be, or if my vision is practical, but hopefully someone who knows more can offer suggestions.
I don't have a lot of spare cash on hand, but I could swing a little bit, or pay in beer and high-fives, or trade for photography services (my profession...bike photos, family portraits, sexy shots for your POF profile, etc). Thanks to anyone interested in helping out.
