    Another oil thread!!

So I've got these 4 litres of Motul 5100 Ester based full synthetic, that I've had for 7 yrs. I've just now gotten a machine that needs the same viscosity as this oil,,10W-40. I've heard from people who say that there's a time limit to use sealed oil. Wondering what it is that actually goes off on sealed oil?

Synthetic has a shelf life of like 20 years generic oil the additives in the oil can separate and not properly mix back together, at least this has been my experience.

the biggest concern is the additives can drop out/seperate. If it's kept to a climate controlled area this is less likely to happen, usually the manufacturers recommend a shelf life of 2-5 years.
