My wife and I went out about 5pm yesterday to get something to eat. We went to our usual haunts (Richmond is not noted for fine dining....), but could not find a place to park amidst the sea of silver German SUV's in all the restaurant parking lots.
We decided to try Earl's in Lansdowne Mall, which we hadn't been to for some time.
Parking wasn't a problem and we did get a booth in the restaurant despite it being quite full of people who seem to think they need to yell at the top of their lungs all the time.
When I opened the menu, the first thing that caught my eye was the Fish & Chips for.....get this....$23!! Now, I don't care if it was caught by the Apostles, no 2 piece fish & chips is worth even half that.
Anyway.....Marg ordered the Fetuccini Alfredo for $17 (with chicken...an extra couple of bucks) and I ordered Roast chicken something or other with "garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables" which was "on special" for $20.
When our meals arrived, both were cold. The fettucini was grossly undercooked and was like chewing on a strawberry twizzler. When Marg mentioned it to the child server, she said (with obvious disdain for what was obviously riff-raff) that it is was "Al Dente".
No....it wasn't Al Dente, it was undercooked. The chicken on both our meals was obviously boiled and was utterly tasteless. To sum up, our meals were crap.
I was quite disappointed, as I do remember terrific lunches at Earl's, both in Richmond and the one in North Van.
