Somewhere on my recent mega-circuit of the western USA I recall whanging a pothole pretty good, and while washing the bike down this afternoon I discovered I've bent the front rim slightly. The bead still seals fine, and the damage is only about 1mm of distortion over about 40mm of length. Seeing as how I rode several more days after the 'hit' I obviously could continue to just ride on as is, but the thought of the consequences of losing pressure at 200kph influences me towards getting 'a fix'.
Anyone have any experience with any local repair facilities? (The complication being the rim is gold anodized, and so far as I know the only repair method requires high heat, which undoubtedly will screw the finish... which would then require refinishing...)
Anyone think I should just ride it? (if it was a car, I'd do that for sure, but a bike... not so sure...)
Or who thinks I should just bite the bullet and spend approx. $350 for a new rim?
Here's how it looks:
