Well as the title says this ride is all about a girl.
A long time on again off again girlfriend is now off again. But don't fret, I met a beautiful woman on August long. We hit it off, had a weekend fling, but alas she lives in Portland. Well any excuse for a ride... but to be fair, sex might be the best excuse.
So I decided to do my favorite weekend ride. From my place in Peachland, south to Yakima (Via 97 alternate and Yakima Canyon) bed down for the night. Then take 12 west towards Mt Raineer. A very sweet road on par with Hwy 20, very quick, lots of 1XX mph sweepers. If you get weird like that. Then hang a left at Randle and hit up some of the best Roads in Washington. Take NF25 south, then NF99 up to Windy Ridge.
These are not roads for the faint at heart. Tons of frost heaving on 25, but the road is incredible. There is a lot to be said for a twisting strip of Tarmac leading up one of the worlds most famous volcanos, through what can only be described as a tunnel of trees.
Once part way up you will see the signs for 99 to Windy Ridge. This road might just be my favourite on earth. Near perfect blacktop save for the odd spot of gravel. 2/3 of the way up the landscape changes from your average evergreen Forrest, to what can only be described as the surface of the moon. I will let the pictures do the talking for the rest of this road.
The trip down isn't any worse, I now head to Cougar to gas up. Not to mention the road to Cougar is pretty damn good. Once gassed up I back track, then head back down 25 towards Carson. This is another great road, perfect for a SuperSport. Not too technical but plenty of second gear stuff that keeps you hard on the binders and equally hard on the gas.
Once in Carson, the fun is basically over. Stick on the Washington side along the Lewis and Clarke Hwy, it's basically the S2S without impounds.
Stroll into Portland for a night of dancing and romance. Then return the way you came...
