Flying down to Eugene in the next day or two to pick up my new bike and ride it back home to Victoria via Port Angeles ferry. I am in no rush and the weather looks favourable for taking 2-3 days to get home. I'm therefore thinking that I have time to check out some interesting roads on the way home.
Route ideas so far:
1) I was thinking that once I leave Eugene I'd head out along Hwy 126 to Florence on the coast, ride N along Hwy 101 to Waldport and then back inland via Hwy 34 to the Corvalis-Albany area.
I'm picking this route mainly because the roads to and from the coast appear to be curvy as opposed to me having a compelling need to ride Hwy 101, which I have ridden a number of times in the past. I rode Hwy 126 a couple of years ago but it was during a torrential downpour and not very enjoyable at all. I always wanted to try it again under more favourable riding conditions.
I'm heading back inland at Waldport because there's a motorcycle shop I want to check out in Albany and I also want to hit the outlet mall in Woodburn on my way N.
2) Once I reach Portland (and check out another m/c shop) I was going to head E along Hwy 30/I84 to The Dalles and then do a big loop to check out the roads around Fossil, Maupin, Antelope, Shaniko, etc. that I read about in a ride report earlier this season.
Once I returned to The Dalles I was going to retrace my steps back to Portland (or, more likely, return along the N side of the Columbia in WA) before heading N to Olympia along I5 or perhaps one of the north-south secondary highways that runs nearby.
Here's a link to a map of my proposed route.
Any suggestions for other roads I should check out on the way home are welcome. Thanks.
