Coles Notes: Aspar is ditching Aprilia since Jorge Martinez (the head of the Aspar team) was devoted more to Gigi (the head of Aprilia's motorsports efforts) than he was to the Aprilia brand... and Gigi's leaving Aprilia to work for Ducati; undoubtedly lured there by new Audi money that probably appears on an expense sheet somewhere under the heading "Ducati motorsports much needed elective surgery: cranial-anal-ectomy." Interestingly, apparently Aspar had the opportunity to race the Ducatis, but declined as Jorge undoubtedly doesn't think even the mighty Gigi could un-fuck that bike in time for next season.
So, in a perfect storm-like situation, Honda America saw an opportunity, and helped broker a deal in which 1) Aspar would race the new Honda RCV1000R production racer, and 2) would sign Nicky Hayden to ride one. Given how well that bike's done thus far, it looks to be about the best situation Hayden could have hoped for. No news on his teammate as yet.
