For those who don't know the TiMax gloves, check this link out:
My buddy saw these in an ad, and said his first words were "These are so you". He was right. These gloves have a sweet look to them, that I still would have worn them if they didn't fit decent. Lucky for me, they are a great glove all around.
When I first tried them on, I found them pretty stiff, not too unusual with a leather glove. What I found the most uncomfortable was the top of the hand where the knuckle plate is. Since the weather has been crappy, I have been in the cage, but I didn't think that should interfere with breaking them in. So like the bike dork I am I wore them while driving, break them in some. Don't think that doesn't get you some looks at stop lights.
After about 3 hours total they were starting to feel perfect. As soon as the glove starting molding to my hand it became so comfortable, and didn't even notice the knuckle plate anymore.
It looks like a lot of doing up, but you get used to it quickly. There are two main straps that overlap, with the top strap velcroing onto the bottom strap. One zipper running from edge to the base of the thumb. Also on the underside of your wrist is another small strap you can use for even more snugness. When the two top straps are undone and the zipper down, it opens up to a respectable width to get over your jacket. I wear a JR Meteor jacket and it fit easily.
Good transition of feeling through the fingers. At first they feel flimsy, but are quite reinforced and even lined with some polar fleece like stuff. Great sensitivity and warm. Only concern at this time is the thumb. Doesn't feel as insulated, and with the seam you are always pointed in the wind. Didn't feel too bad on the ride tonight, and it was chilly, so will test it more.
So I get home from work and tear off to wipe out the days hell, eager to get the first true test ride of the gauntlets in. Having a good ride when about 20 minutes into it I am passing some guy and he veers into my lane in aticipating passing some guy a couple minutes ahead. Jackass doesn't bother to look (shocker) and forces me over the yellow. As some traffic was coming I just jam the brakes and veer back in behind the guy. He was driving some crappy red cavalier and could see the cell phone in his hand. I pull up on his right side and hit the horn (hard to be taken serious with a standard bike horn, think I should start packing an air horn) to get his attention. He glances and kinda brushes me off. I make the universal "Are you a retard" motion with the hands to which he offers me the finger and makes as if to pull into me again.
The only words going through my mind at that moment were from pulp fiction : Well allow me to retort! Give it some gas and zip ahead and cuff his mirror. Sheared the little plastic POS right off. Guess the guy saw what kind of hardware was on the gloves, it being subtle and all, so he jams his breaks to break off. I just zip on ahead and leave him stewing.
Just some minor scuffing which I buffed out at home lol. Not that I am advocationg open season on mirrors, just nice to have a little bit of incentive to reminding the gimps of the road to frigging look and not kill one of us.
Anyway, if you have some more questions on the gloves shoot away. I am pretty happy with them and am thinking I should get the matching jacket now hehe.
