Just wondering...for those who shop for groceries, do you tend to go to the local convenient store, IGA/Supervalu, Safeway, Save-on-foods, Superstore, Walmart, Costco, or any other markets?
It seems like the trend in the economy is towards bigger chains and stores with more selection. As you move from the local grocer to Costco, the prices (per unit) go down....but are you true to one particular store? Would you rather support a small local business and pay higher prices or would you rather go to Walmart where they "sell for less"?
One reason why I ask is because Walmart is trying to open up a new store in Richmond...I'd rather pay higher prices to see a local business or Safeway stay in my neighbourhood than an American giant take our money out of the country. Superstore in downtown Richmond has already stolen sales from Safeway and IGA, which are under constant threat from extinction.
What do you think about Walmart annexing Canadian shoppers?
