the quote above is a post in a thread about insuring a race bike. the reason i am messaging is that my buddy's race bike got ripped off a couple days ago & we suspect the thief might take it to the may18/19 in spokane before stripping it. who can resist ?!? it's a blue/white 2001 gixxer 750 (second one in a week) with ohlins front & rear suspension & a host of other trick mods. so here's the question & its related to the post above about the "valid vin to prove you own the bike when you go to the US for track day."
when they check the VIN, are they just checking to see if there's a VIN or do they check the VIN & then verify ownership to make sure the bike belongs to you ?? how do they know the VIN is valid ?? also what if the VIN has been removed ?? will they still let the guy take it on the track ??
how bout CUSTOMS at the border ?? are they goin to be of any help ?? obviously US Customs wouldn't have info re whether a bike is stolen or not but how bout the trip back thru CAD Customs ?? do they do a VIN check at all ?? (on race bikes on the back of a trailer to verify owership ??)
how does it work if the thief decides to take it to a canadian track day such as in Calgary or Mission ??
thanx ... if they do check for ownership then i am goin to call SIR to make sure they look out for it. i might just do that anyways. i plan to call the local tracks to make sure to watch out for this bike. unfortunately it is a common color .. blue/white gixxer 750 2001 & not really any cosmetic mods .. most/all of the mods are suspension, brakes, engine, etc. the reason for this thread is that the bike wasn't insured .. being a race bike.
didn't know what else to do. you can PM me if you have any comments or suggestions.
thanx for your help.
ps should have gotten a ninja .. this wouldn't have happened !?!
